The University is presently located in Vellore Fort, which is one of the monuments of the Vellore Town. The approximate circumference of the fort is 2600 meters. The fort is the perfect specimen of the Military Architecture in South India.
The Thiruvallauvar University was established under the Thiruvalluvar University Act by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 16.10.2002, with an ambition and motto to empower the society with higher education.
The sources of finance for the University are grants-in-aid from the Government of Tamil Nadu and Government of India and also through research schemes of Government of India and fees collected from students of affiliated colleges.
Non-Semester / Semester examinations for UG/PG degree students of the University Departments and affiliated colleges are conducted. The University is striving to achieve the objectives through the vision of liberating knowledge having the mission of empowering through higher education
