Movie Review: For anybody who wants to know what is the on-screen definition of Bollywood (read popular mainstream Hindi cinema), Dabangg is truly text book fare. It's loud, crazy, zany, exaggerated, larger-than-life, almost nonsensical, totally make-believe, comic book like, complete kitsch, generously peppered with the mandatory desi tadka (garnishing) of songs and dances that keep popping out of nowhere and is literally oozing with star charisma. Most importantly, it's not meant to make sense. It's only meant to entertain. And entertain, it does in overdoses. No, this isn't meant for people who are looking for different cinema. Nor is it meant for the viewer who likes movies to appeal to his head. Yet, for those who celebrate and serenade the `silliness' of mainstream masala movie lore and swear by its popcorn quotient, Dabangg is the greatest getaway of the season.

Dabangg means fearless. Someone who doesn’t care a damn! As much as the film doesn’t care a damn for coming up with any innovative storyline. Like the intrepid Chulbul Pandey who tries to intermittently hide his soggy eyes behind his sunglasses, the film tries to camouflage its deficiency of substance with an abundance of Salman’s splendid style.

So what you have here is a masala potboiler with customary ingredients of two stepbrothers, a doting mother, a romance track, an item number, five action sequences, a topless Salman scene and a happy end. To cover up the conventionalism of his script, director Abhinav Singh Kashyup makes the action director and editor work overtime. And to make Salman Khan’s character look strong and supreme, every other character in the film is diluted or diminished.

Dabangg Review & Movie Rating : Salman

Dabangg is Sonakshi Sinha's debut film, but she didn't show any signs of nervousness while facing the camera, says director Abhinav Kashyap.

"Even though this is Sonakshi's first film and she is opposite Salman (Khan) in the film, she showed no signs of nervousness. She is a very confident girl and has no camera fright. Just after doing few rehearsals, she understood everything," said Kashyap.

In Dabangg, Sonakshi plays a village belle, Rajo, who plays an important part in changing the life of Chulbul Pandey, played by Salman.
